Feed the Need: A new initiative started by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) today that the residents of Hyderabad and nearby restaurants now can donate the excess food which would be stored in public refrigerators. GHMC has reached out to a few nearby restaurants, who have all agreed to stock the fridge with their excess food.
The initiative by the GHMC named ‘Feed the Need’ was launched in association with the NGO Apple Home. The NGO which has set up one refrigerator, will set up 9 more refrigerators in February and aims to set up 100 of these free food fridges over the course of the year. The fridges will be accessible to anyone who wishes to have a free meal during any time of the day.
Areas like Shilparamam, Jubileehills, Chandanagar Metro station etc., along 10 more possible areas were being installed with these public refrigerators, will be functioning from this February and GHMC planning to increase their number up to 100 within this year itself.

“We will facilitate the linkage and get in touch with the restaurants to keep the food that gets normally wasted. At the end of each day, hotels have to dispose off the food as per the norms, now they can keep in the fridge for whoever is hungry in the night,” said Hari Chandra, West Zone Commissioner for GHMC.
